Marvel of Marvels exists as an outlet of ~Reformed~ theological inklings centred around any and all spiritual matters that come to the mind of the author. Whether they relate to godly womanhood, the author’s prior experience as a Pentecostal, the way an evening walk at dusk or a seaside run in high summer pushed me to worship my Creator, thoughts on a recent theology/church history/apologetics read—or even the occasional current affairs think-piece situated within the lens of Biblical Christianity (fun!)—Marvel of Marvels seeks to glorify the Lord in all musings, great and small, and to walk through these deliberations in a manner which aligns with what Scripture commands.
I chose this name after a most beloved and apt quote from C.S. Lewis’ The Last Battle, the final work in his Chronicles of Narnia. The speaker is a Calormene solider, a young man named Emeth who belongs to a nation that is an enemy of Narnia and Aslan. He has always sought to serve the god of his people, Tash the Inexorable, a false god, a god of greed and power and corruption, but in his sincerity to walk a life of truth, he was found by Aslan after all.
On the eternal side of the stable door, he tells our protagonists that he met the great Lion, despite his “Gentile” status: “And this is the marvel of marvels, that he called me Beloved, me who am but as a dog.” What truth rings in these words! How relatable to all who are a part of the fold, who are no longer goats before the throne of judgment, but sheep under the Good Shepherd!
I was once dead in my trespasses, unable to breathe on my own, constrained by the weight and corruption of sin, nothing but a dog, a filthy mutt who returned to its own vomit, but God!! But God, in His grace, in His justice, in His holiness, saw fit to accept the price of redemption that the Son offered upon the cross, the sacrifice that my Saviour willingly and joyfully shouldered for me, that I might be justified before the Father, and called Beloved.
About the author
Hi! I’m Macey, and I was graciously bestowed the gift of saving faith at a young age, around 4 years old. I came to understand Reformed theology in totality shortly after turning 21, after a couple of years of trying to rectify what I had been taught about sotierology as compared with what Scripture has said about the matter. In 2020, the Lord used the extra time that the pandemic gave me to spend the summer in serious study, working out my salvation with fear and trembling. I came to understand the doctrines of grace—specifically, perseverance of the saints—with such sweetness, and my walk with Christ has been blessed and changed ever since. By the end of the year, I affirmed Covenantal theology with all my heart.
I have long enjoyed sorting through my thoughts via writing, and I even started a blog during my senior year of high school. (That space has evolved into being a book + personal outlet, you can find it at brineandbooks.com :)) Since I discovered Reformed theology, I have long wished for the ability to pursue a theological degree of some sort, and my dream career (besides the sacred calling of motherhood) would be as a church historian and writer.
I graduated with my B.S. in History in 2021, and as I await further direction from the Lord, I work in education as a substitute teacher. It is a truly sanctifying and rewarding blessing to work with children—especially those with special needs, often considered the least of these—when our culture increasingly belittles life, the value of humanity from the moment of conception, and the Lord’s will for the family, marriage, and identity.

Why subscribe?
Despite the fact that I thoroughly believe in writing for its own sake and to the glory of God alone, I do think there is value in financially supporting creators and individuals whose work you esteem in an age of censorship of the minority opinion coupled with a concerning growth of those who have not only a lack of trust, but of belief, in the principles of freedom of thought and the marketplace of ideas.
If you find value in what Marvel of Marvels generates, please consider subscribing for the price of $5 a month, which is likely even less than a latte at any coffeeshop, corporate or independent, in this era of inflation ;). Although I will be greatly encouraged simply by your subscriptions, reads, comments, and shares, I would very much appreciate a paid sub as I endeavour to follow my dreams of writing full-time to the glory of the Lord as I pursue what’s next in His will for my life.
Becoming a paid subscriber will get you full access to the newsletter and publication archives in the form of:
a monthly deep dive into a historical event of interest to the author
a monthly historical profile of an actor in church history (post-Apostolic age)
the occasional essay that never made it to my blog or this space
full archive access to posts i choose to paywall after awhile
